Report provides update on Mauricio Pochettino’s desire to return to Spurs

The Times have reported that Mauricio Pochettino wants a nostalgic return to Tottenham Hotspur if they part with Antonio Conte this summer.

Pochettino is apparently among the names being considered by Spurs in case Conte does leave, but it is unclear whether Daniel Levy would swallow his pride after sacking the Argentine back in 2019.

The report points out that rehiring the former Spurs boss could also create an internal power struggle, with Fabio Paratici now at the club, and Tottenham having committed to a wing-back system in recent transfer windows.

This comes after Football Insider claimed that Chelsea had made contact with Pochettino, who was said to be intrigued by the idea of taking the hot seat from Graham Potter at Stamford Bridge.

Antonio Conte has increasingly been linked with a parting of ways in North London of late, especially since his trip back to Italy to recover from a recent gallbladder surgery (Daily Mail and The Times).

Journalist Dean Jones reported for GiveMeSport that Spurs chairman Daniel Levy is willing to consider rehiring Pochettino, but others within the club hierarchy would need convincing.

Meanwhile, 90 min claimed that Pochettino had actually rejected advances from Chelsea as it was not an idea that ticked ‘all the boxes’ for the Argentine.

Football Insider added that Pochettino, who still owns his home in London from his time in charge of Spurs, is also attracting interest from top Premier League and European teams.

Spurs Web Opinion

Pochettino returning to Tottenham seems to be lining up rather well, and it could come down to whether Levy can convince the board and if Poch himself would prefer Spurs over the likes of Real Madrid.

Whatever the case, Levy and ENIC would be foolish not to consider it. They need a more attacking manager who is going to deliver entertainment, as well as success. Plus, the nostalgia of Pochettino returning would perhaps ease some fan criticism. For now.
