‘A big club’ – 28-year-old insists he does not regret decision to join Spurs in 2020

Former Tottenham Hotspur goalkeeper Pierluigi Gollini has insisted that he has no regrets about signing for the Lilywhites, even though he warmed the bench for much of his time in North London.

Guglielmo Vicario has taken over the number one shirt from Hugo Lloris but a couple of years ago, another passionate Italian, Gollini, failed in his quest to do just that, serving as the Frenchman’s understudy during his year-long loan spell at the North London club in 2020-21.

The 28-year-old did not make a single Premier League appearance for the Lilywhites, eventually returning to his parent club, Atalanta at the end of the season.

Since then, Gollini has had loan spells at Fiorentina and Napoli, having spent the last 12 months at the Diego Armando Maradona Stadium as Alex Meret’s understudy.

Gollini does not regret joining Spurs despite struggles

The Italy international has now opened up on the time he spent in London as well as his current spell in Naples, insisting that he is happy with the choices he made despite not getting regular game time under his belt.

Gollini told Sport Mediaset, (as relayed by Pianeta Napoli): “In your career, in life, you have to make choices. When I went to Tottenham, I chose to go to a big club to play my cards, just as I did here at Napoli. I feel good here, I’m happy.

“It’s obviously clear that when you play multiple games in a row, the difference can be felt. Playing is important. When you play 4-5 games in a row, it’s different than when you play every two months. I know my qualities, and the stages I’ve played on, but I am happy to be in an important club like Napoli.”

One can understand why top clubs want Gollini to be their number two as not only is he a decent goalkeeper but he is also a fantastic team man, who does not moan at his lack of opportunities and is a great character to have in the changing room.
