‘A big honour’ – Kane and Son react to breaking PL goal record in heart-warming interview

Heung-min Son has claimed it is a ‘big honour’ to play alongside Harry Kane at Tottenham after the pair broke the all-time Premier League goal combination record.

The Spurs duo each netted once in Tottenham’s 4-0 thrashing of Leeds United, which saw Antonio Conte’s side bounce back from Wednesday’s defeat at Burnley.

Son scored the game’s final goal from a stunning long-range pass from Kane which ensured the record would be held by two new names.

It means the pair have now combined for 37 goals in England’s top flight, eclipsing the previous record held by Chelsea’s Frank Lampard and Didier Drogba.

Reacting to being told of their accomplishment, Son told BT Sport: “It’s a big honour. It’s fantastic.

“The record is also important but three points are because the result in midweek was not the best or what we wanted.

“We take the record of course but the most important thing as well is we got the three points.”

Asked about why their relationship can be considered ‘telepathic’, Kane added: “We’ve been playing together now for a long, long time. We just understand each other’s games well.

“Obviously when I drop deep Sonny knows where to run and hopefully I’m able to put him in. You saw that for the last goal.

“We enjoy playing together but like you say the most important thing is the team and [it was] another fantastic display from everyone.”

Spurs Web Opinion

Kane and Son have been relied upon by Tottenham for plenty of seasons and they rightfully deserve to hold this record. Their relationship is so good that they always seem to know where they are on the pitch as demonstrated against Leeds, which has made it such a deadly combination.
