‘A big period of his life’ – Pundit claims Spurs player should have left on loan

Former Leeds United striker Noel Whelan has claimed that Tottenham Hotspur should have sent Jack Clarke out on loan.

The winger was reported to have been the subject of plenty of interest from a number of clubs below the Premier League including Birmingham City only for Spurs to want him to remain in North London (Football Insider).

Clarke is yet to play a competitive match for Tottenham following his £8.5million switch from Leeds United in 2019 (talkSPORT).

He re-joined the Leeds on a season-long loan after agreeing his switch to Spurs, however, he was recalled by Spurs at the start of the January transfer window after making only one Championship appearance at Elland Road.

A second loan spell of the season at QPR also proved to be somewhat of a disappointment.

Whelan admits that Clarke is unlikely to get an opportunity with Jose Mourinho’s first team and should have been allowed to head out and get the chance to play senior football.

He told Football Insider: “He really needs game time and proper game time out on loan, I would have said.

“Is he going to be thrown into the first-team? I don’t think so, I very much doubt that. I think they’re trying to see if he’s the real deal or not and if the money they’ve paid for him is worth it. This is an assessment time for Jack Clarke and a big period of his life.

“There’s definitely talent there. Can he rise up and shine and show that the money they paid for you is the quality that the money is worth?”
