‘A bit too early’ – Sky reporter provides update on Micky van de Ven after Hotspur Way visit

Sky Sports reporter Jamie Weir has revealed that Tottenham Hotspur defender Micky van de Ven has not started training outdoors as of yet as he continues his recovery from injury.

Van de Ven had an exceptional start to his Spurs career following his summer move, arguably being the best centre-half on show across the Premier League during the first few months of the campaign.

However, the centre-back has not featured since suffering a hamstring injury in the London derby defeat against Chelsea at the start of November.

While Ben Davies has covered well for the Dutchman in his absence, Ange Postecoglou would be hoping to have the 22-year-old back as soon as possible since his recovery pace and technical quality adds a different dimension to the Spurs side when partnered alongside Cristian Romero.

Football Insider provided a promising update about van de Ven a few days ago, stating that the centre-back is expected to be back in action in January.

Meanwhile, Paul O Keefe, who often breaks news on social media about developments at Hotspur Way, revealed last week that the former Wolfsburg man has been training outdoors on his own as he steps up his recovery.

Van de Ven not close to return

Weir was in attendance at Tottenham’s training complex to cover the side’s training session on Tuesday and there were no signs of van de Ven.

Contrary to the rumours on social media, the journalist suggested that the centre-back is unlikely to be back in time for the FA Cup clash against Burnley on January 5.

Weir told Sky Sports News: “I’m afraid, Spurs fans watching, we were hoping we might see Micky van de Ven out on the grass but obviously a bit too early for Van de Ven.

“He went off with a hamstring problem in the defeat against Chelsea about six weeks ago, James Maddison went off in that game as well and he isn’t out there either.

“There were murmurings that Van de Ven was targeting a return in the FA Cup game against Burnley in the first weekend in January but what’s that now? Twenty days away and he’s not out there just yet.”

Spurs Web Opinion

Postecoglou and the coaching staff would certainly not be rushing van de Ven back since Davies has proven himself to be an able deputy at left centre-back during recent displays.

I am excited to see just how good we would be when we have van de Ven, Maddison and Bentancur fit but it seems like we might have to wait until February to find out.
