‘A bright future’ – Jose Mourinho gives honest assessment of Dele Alli at Spurs

Tottenham Hotspur have been enjoying a mini resurgence under new manager Jose Mourinho over the past week, following a shocking start to the new campaign.

However, the Special One has come in and switched up the training style and the formation to great effect in North London, with a 100% win record so far.

He started with a 3-2 away win against West Ham United, the club’s first victory on the road since January 2019.

Spurs then beat Olympiacos 4-2 at home to book their place in the knockout rounds of the Champions League for the third year in a row.

In both these matches, Dele Alli has put in a man of the match display, setting up goals for his teammates while also scoring one of his own on Tuesday night.

This is quite the turnaround from Dele’s form under Pochettino for the last year, which was plagued with injury and inconsistency.

However, Mourinho warns that Dele will not be man of the match every week and that he needs to continue developing and maintaining his levels.

He said (Football London): “I think you have to speak with him because it was him not me. I don’t play. I don’t fight, I don’t run. He is doing everything by himself. We just try to give him the right conditions to feel well to do that. I have to say, two fantastic performances. He will not be the man of the match every game, he will have some matches where he will not play as well as he did in these two.

“He has to keep a certain base, a certain platform of performance where he is never going below that, so let’s keep that base as the objective. Fantastic player, young, with all the conditions to develop, so I think a bright future and we just want to help him to reach his levels and maintain these levels.”
