‘A complete number nine’ – Rumoured Spurs target compared to Karim Benzema

Former AC Milan striker Marco Borriello has lavished praise on rumoured Tottenham Hotspur target Arkadiusz Milik and believes the striker is up there with the best number nines in Italian football.

It is clear that Tottenham require a striker to serve as a back up to Harry Kane, with the club lacking a plan B since Fernando Llorente departed last summer.

The North Londoners are reportedly ‘pushing a lot’ to land the 26-year-old (Alfredo Pedulla via TuttoNapoli), with some reports even indicating that they have previously made a player plus cash offer to sign him (Tuttosport via Sport Witness).

The Polish international, who only has a year to run on his contract with Napoli is also said to be interesting Juventus (Todofichajes).

Borriello has urged the current Serie A champions to snap up Milik as he feels the striker could prove the perfect foil for Cristiano Ronaldo, just as Karim Benzema was at Real Madrid.

When asked how Napoli star would fare together with Ronaldo, the former Italian international told Tuttosport: “Really well. Milik is a complete number nine and, if he hadn’t suffered those bad injuries, he would be one of the strongest with [Gonzalo] Higuain and [Edin] Dzeko.

“Arek is not just a penalty-box striker, he is one of those who scores more with shots from outside the area.

“For CR7, he could be a bit like what [Karim] Benzema was in his time at Real Madrid. But, trust me, these transfer rumours do not exist on the pitch. Now Milik is only thinking of Napoli.”

Spurs Web Opinion

Of the various strikers we have been linked with so far this summer, there is no doubt that Milik would be the ideal option for us. However, he is likely to be highly sought after this summer with Napoli having to sell him due to his contract situation.

I cannot see him being too keen on coming to Spurs and playing second fiddle to Kane, particularly given the fact that the main reason he is leaving Napoli is to play more regularly.
