‘A different road’ – Postecoglou reveals his first message to the Spurs squad

Ange Postecoglou has revealed in his first press conference as Tottenham boss that he has made it clear to the Spurs squad that they are set to go down a different path under him.

The reports coming out of Hotspur Way suggest that Postecoglou has already had a transformative effect on the club in just a little over a week with the players and the staff.

Alasdair Gold revealed via Football.London last week that he has made a ‘very strong and clear impression’ on the Tottenham squad, wasting no time in drilling his relentless attacking and pressing approach into the players.

He added that the 56-year-old’s storytelling approach had made a mark on the squad, who have been left in no doubt as to what their new gaffer expects of them.

This was also seconded by Dan Kilpatrick in The Evening Standard a couple of days ago, with the journalist adding that Postecoglou had stressed his determination to play entertaining, attacking football in his first meeting with the players.

When asked what his message to the squad has been, the Australian has now said (via Football.London): “Just about being open-minded and not bogged down by expectation and history.

“We are going to go down a different road. Not because it’s better, just because it’s me and that’s what I do.

“It won’t change where we’re heading, it might derail it for a little bit although I won’t allow it to be for long and it’s about who wants to get on this train so we can get to our destination.”

Postecoglou certainly seems to possess immense self-belief and one would hope that it would percolate to the players over the course of pre-season and get them to fully buy into the Australian’s methods, even if there are some tethering problems at the start.
