‘A fighter’ – Hugo Lloris happy to see Spurs teammate thriving at World Cup

Hugo Lloris has admitted that he is over the moon to see Richarlison shining for Brazil at the World Cup.

Lloris’ France and Richarlison’s Brazil are two of just three teams who have already sealed progression to the knockout stages of the World Cup following the second round of group games.

The two teams are among the favourites to go all the way and could well come up against one another in the latter stages of the tournament.

If they do, Lloris will likely square up against Richarlison, who has led the line impressively in the Selecao’s two games against Serbia and Switzerland so far.

The 25-year-old has received glowing praise for his display in Brazil’s tournament opener, with his heroics even being compared with World Cup-winning legend Ronaldo Nazario (Jogada 10).

Lloris has spoken in glowing terms of his Tottenham teammate, expressing his delight at the forward shining in a team full of superstars.

The France captain told The Telegraph about Richarlison: “I’m happy for him. He’s probably the least fancied player of the team but he’s a fighter and he showed the part of genius that he has in him.”

Since Richarlison is extremely physical and is a scrapper, people sometimes tend to underrate his technical qualities.  He showed with his second goal against Serbia that he is capable of producing moments of magic out of nothing, and he will certainly be crucial for the Selecao if they are to go all the way in Qatar.
