‘A great club’ – Ex-Barcelona man would not be surprised to see manager join Spurs

Former Barcelona winger Ibrahim Afellay believes that Arne Slot would not be able to turn down Tottenham Hotspur if the North London club come calling for him.

Slot has been heavily linked with the Spurs hot seat for over a month but in recent days, it appears as if the North London club have substantiated their interest in the Dutchman.

The Telegraph reported on Wednesday that the Lilywhites have now stepped up their pursuit of the 44-year-old, who led Feyenoord to a historic Eredivisie title win over the weekend.

The publication stated that Spurs are keen to talk to Arne Slot soon about their managerial vacancy, and asserted that despite the North London club’s insistence that there is no leading candidate for the role, they are now giving ‘serious consideration’ to the Feyenoord boss.

Some reports have suggested over recent days that Slot is also on the radar of some other Premier League clubs (The Athletic) but Afellay believes the Dutch coach’s head will certainly be turned if the Lilywhites make an offer.

The former Netherlands international told Studio Voetbal (17/05/23 as relayed by Feyenoord Pings and SportWitness) about Tottenham’s rumoured interest: “If that club applies, you have to be a big boy to refuse. I wouldn’t be surprised if he goes then.

“Tottenham Hotspur is a great club, very different from Southampton or Aston Villa.

“At Feyenoord, Slot reached the maximum, he got more out than in.

“Do you expect him to reach the Champions League final next year?”

Spurs Web Opinion

It is unclear as of yet if Slot is indeed Tottenham’s top target but I have no doubt that the Dutchman will take the job if it is offered to him.

He would realise that an opportunity to manage a top Premier League club might not present itself again in his career.
