‘A great example’ – Antonio Conte lauds Spurs star’s positive impact on teammates

Antonio Conte has praised Harry Kane for his display in Tottenham’s win over Newcastle United and believes the striker’s work ethic is a ‘great example’ for his teammates to follow.

Spurs secured a comfortable 5-1 victory over the Magpies earlier this evening to leapfrog rivals Arsenal into the Premier League top four.

They suffered a brief scare en route to their third consecutive win, however, after they fell behind to Fabian Schar’s free-kick which Hugo Lloris struggled to deal with.

Tottenham responded quickly with Ben Davies nodding an effort home moments later, before Matt Doherty, Heung-min Son, Emerson Royal and Steven Bergwijn sealed a commanding victory in the second half.

But despite the flurry of goals in north London, Spurs talisman Kane did not manage to get on the scoresheet himself.

However, the 28-year-old still produced a fine performance without netting as he continued to showcase his range of passing from a deeper position to create opportunities and space for his team-mates to run into.

And Conte was highly complimentary of Kane’s display and was quick to praise the England captain’s desire to keep improving.

He told Sky Sports: “His performance was amazing. I said to him at the end of the game that it was a shame he did not score. To have this type of player in your team makes you strong. It is important for his teammates to know Kane is in our team. We know he can score and create.

“First of all I like the person. We are talking about a talented player. Many times players with great talent do not want to work hard. Not that they want to work less but sometimes they can be lazy.

“He was an example from the first day I arrived here. You can think this is normal but it is not normal. It is a big example to his teammates and you see his desire to be competitive.”
