‘A great person’ – Brighton midfielder opens up on Bissouma transfer to Spurs

Speaking to The Argus, Pascal Gross has branded new Tottenham signing Yves Bissouma a ‘superb’ midfielder.

Bissouma joined Spurs from Brighton on a four-year deal last month for a fee which could rise up to around £35 million with add-ons (Sky Sports).

The 25-year-old, who previously attracted interest from Arsenal (CalcioMercato), linked up with his new teammates, including fellow midfielder Oliver Skipp, for the first day of Spurs’ pre-season training on Monday (Spurs YouTube).

Bissouma will soon also link up with Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg – a duo who rank at numbers one and two for the most tackles completed by central midfielders in the Premier League last season, with the Dane just four behind the Spurs new boy (WhoScored).

Antonio Conte’s midfield may now be a tough one to break down and it seems as though Spurs’ gain is also Brighton’s loss.

Former midfield partner Gross discussed the departure of Bissouma and what it would mean for his Brighton side.

He said (The Argus): “It was to be expected that he would take the next step. He is a super central midfield player and also a great person. We have to absorb this collectively.”

Spurs Web Opinion

I’m very excited to see Bissouma in the heart of our midfield. As well as being a superb ball winner with physicality to match, he is composed on the ball and will be an influential cog in building attacks.

It will be interesting to see who Conte chooses to pair next to the Mali international in his midfield duo.
