Lucas Bergvall has revealed that he has bulked up considerably since last year in an effort to be stronger in duals and to protect the ball better.
Bergvall continues to look a cut above the rest in Swedish football and given the grace with each he effortlessly glides past players, one can understand why there is so much excitement around the youngster.
While it is anyone’s guess how quickly the 18-year-old would be able to adapt to the demands of the Premier League, reports over recent months indicate that Ange Postecoglou plans on handing the teenager a prominent first-team role next season (Football Insider).
The Sweden international certainly possesses the technical quality on the ball to shine in Postecoglou’s system but some Spurs fans will perhaps be wondering if the youngster has the strength and athleticism to deal with the physicality and intensity of English football.

Bergvall has now explained that he is working hard at that part of his game, revealing that he has put on 8kg since 2022.
The midfielder told Aftonbladet: “Since the beginning of last season? It’s about eight kilos. I’m up to 80 kilos something. That’s a lot (laughs). A hell of a lot of gym. Legs above all, and a little upper body, but a lot of legs, glutes.”
When asked if he was squatting a lot, he added: “Yes, everything possible. Some nordic hamstring, RDL, hip thrust and all that. It feels like I have become more physical. I go into duels, protect the ball better and work harder.”

While Bergvall’s biggest strengths are his technical quality and balance on the ball, the 18-year-old is certainly a decent-sized unit and he does look like he can handle himself in physical duals.
