‘A lot to work on’ – Harry Kane on what Tottenham need to do to improve

In his post-match interview after the 4-1 win over Leeds United, Harry Kane insisted this result cannot make amends for a season that has seen Tottenham Hotspur fall way below the expected standards at the club.

A disappointing season for Tottenham came to an end today with a brilliant performance and exactly the kind of result the fans were hoping to sign off on.

A 4-1 win at Elland Road came courtesy of a Kane double, a goal from Pedro Porro, and a farewell strike from Lucas Moura.

Spurs may have earned all three points today, but they were unable to climb the table and finish the season in eighth place. The Lilywhites will be without European football next season as a result.

Speaking to BT Sport after the game (28/05/23 from 18:30 onwards), Kane looked at the positives on the day, but did not let the good result overshadow a poor campaign overall.

He said: “We were playing for pride today. We also had the chance to finish seventh but that wasn’t the case today.

“It is about showing the fans some fight and determination. It is not an easy place to come away from home. Leeds are fighting for their lives and we put in a great performance. They put a lot of balls into the box and we stood up to that well.

“We were in the lead the week before and didn’t finish out the game. When it went 2-1, credit to the boys for staying in the moment.

“Getting the third goal helped and killed the game off. Overall, we can go away happy.

“It has been a disappointing season. We can’t let this win dust over that. A lot to work on.

“We have had to show fight in some moments. A club this size should not be finishing eighth and we need to go away enjoy a break and look how we can improve.”

That performance today was much more like the Tottenham we expect to see week in, week out.

It’s a shame we haven’t played like that all year, but at least it ends the season on a positive note and gives us something to build on for next season.
