‘A magical player’ – Lionel Messi praises striker linked with Spurs and Chelsea

Lionel Messi has hailed Real Madrid forward Luka Jovic who is reportedly on Tottenham’s radar this summer after naming him among the fifteen best young players in Europe.

Jovic has failed to hit the expected heights in Spain this season having found the back of the net on just two occasions for Real Madrid (transfermarkt) after they paid in excess of £50 million (Independent) to sign him from Eintracht Frankfurt last summer.

The Mirror reported last month that Madrid are keen to offload the 22-year-old when the transfer market reopens in the summer after his relationship with the club took a hit when the striker refused to self-isolate as requested this month.

The 22-year-old instead returned to Serbia and was seen on the streets of Belgrade and was present at his girlfriend’s birthday party  (The Sun).

Tottenham are said to be battling their London rivals Chelsea and Arsenal for Jovic’s signature this summer (Daily Star).

Messi was asked to name the 15 “youth on the rise” players for Topps Champions League cards and Jovic was one of the players to make the cut.

Speaking about Jovic, the Barcelona star said (as relayed by Give Me Sport): “A magical player who makes the impossible, possible.”

Spurs Web Opinion

Messi’s words are certainly a huge compliment to Jovic and show how highly rated the youngster is. While his talent has never been in question, it does seem as if the striker might have an attitude problem. Regardless, I doubt Real Madrid will want to sell him permanently this summer. I believe Jovic is more likely to be loaned out.
