‘A new player Monday?’ – Jose Mourinho looks ahead to the summer transfer window

Tottenham Hotspur are now just one game away from completing what has been a rather strange 2019/20 season, with a trip to Crystal Palace on Sunday.

Spurs started the campaign under Mauricio Pochettino and fresh off the back of a Champions League Final, yet end it in lockdown under Jose Mourinho and with a woeful season behind them.

After having shattered their transfer record to bring in Tanguy Ndombele last summer, Spurs will be looking towards the transfer market this year in order to allow Mourinho to put his mark on the squad.

Tottenham introduced Steven Bergwijn and Gedson Fernandes on loan in the January window, with Mourinho assuring fans that the club is heading in the right direction.

The Spurs head coach claimed that they know what they can do and what they need, as well as what it is possible for them to get this summer.

He even joked about introducing a new signing on Monday when asked if any early Spurs deals would be completed.

Mourinho said (Football London): “A new player Monday? (laughs) That would be amazing news but it’s just the opening of the window. We’re going in the right direction. Very calm, organised, measured, thinking of everything. We know what we can do, which directions we can go in, which directions we cannot. We are very balanced, we’re together. No doubts about what we need, what it is possible for us to get. Step by step we’ll end with a better, more balanced squad, keeping the great players we have is a very important thing.”
