‘A pity’ – Conte reveals his plans to ‘exploit’ international break at Spurs

Antonio Conte has admitted that the timing of the international break is not ideal for his side, given the momentum they are now starting to build.

Tottenham produced a commanding performance at home to overcome West Ham 3-1 on Sunday, thus registering back-to-back wins in the Premier League for the first time since boxing day.

After a run of erratic performances and results since the turn of the year, the Lilywhites now finally seem to be starting to find a level of consistency.

The wins over Brighton and West Ham have brought Conte’s men right back into the thick of the race for a fourth-place finish.

However, the Tottenham head coach will now see several of his key players join up with their national squads for the next couple of weeks.

Conte admitted that he and his coaching staff will try to make the best out of a bad situation by working with the players who will remain at Hotspur Way over the next two weeks.

When asked if he will use the international break to give some of his players a rest, the Spurs boss told Football.London: “For sure, you’re right.

“Honestly, it’s a pity to have the international break in this moment because in this moment we are in good form, in a good moment about the results, the performance.

“But I know very well there is an international break and with the players that have to go with the national team we will see them after nine days, ten days but with the others, we prepared two different situations of rest.

“Before two days to rest and then to work and then other two days to rest and start work again.

“But for sure we want to try to exploit this period for those not going with their international team to try to continue to improve on the technical and tactical aspect.”

Hopefully, all of our key players return from the international break unscathed. Conte seems to have now settled on his first choice eleven and the consistency in his team selection is seemingly having a positive impact on the team’s performances.
