“A player with great quality” – Eric Dier heaps praise on reported Spurs target

With Christian Eriksen recently confirming his desire to seek a new challenge (Ekstra Bladet), Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly seeking potential replacements for the Dane.

While Tottenham are said to be interested in signing Real Betis midfielder Giovani Lo Celso (The Mirror), another midfielder that the club have been linked with in recent days is Sporting Lisbon’s, Bruno Fernandes.

The Portugal international has had an impressive season at Sporting having scored 31 goals and providing 14 assists in 50 appearances in all competitions this season.

Fernandes is under contract until 2023 and has been linked with a host of clubs including Spurs and Liverpool (Record) along with Premier League rivals Manchester City and Manchester United (Daily Star).

Tottenham midfielder Eric Dier, who came through Sporting Lisbon’s academy has spoken in glowing terms about Fernandes.

The England international said that he still follows Portuguese football and is fully aware of the quality that the Sporting midfielder possesses.

Speaking to O Jogo, Dier said, “Bruno Fernandes is a player with great quality. I try to follow the Portuguese league, but it’s not always easy.

“However, I know perfectly well that he is one of the big values of Portuguese football.”

Not a lot can be read from Dier’s comments as he is just answering the question he was asked.

While Fernandes will no doubt be a quality addition to the squad, given the price being branded about in the press, it is unlikely that Tottenham will be able to get both him and Lo Celso.
