Talk ******* and Daily Lies

We’ve all had a rough 24 hours with regards to the result nd no doubt the heartbreak has not been soothed by certain media outlets. It has come to my attenton, that since I’ve got into Twitter, that there are a lot of Spurs fans who express a great dislike to of two of these so called broadcasters of news and views.

Most of us know who we’re talking about but for those who don’t realise the awful trap we’re being duped into, it’s TalkSport and The Daily mail that p*ss me off the most. Journalism and broadcasting at its most base level. Base because it is the lowest level they need to research and air, for us to get a bite. Most of the articles, excluding match reports, by a certain newspaper that involve our club are generated by the laziest of journalists. The kind who just trawl through all the ITK & foreign news on various dodgy news feeds. They don’t follow up any of the bullshit they read, just regurgitate it and throw onto popular news aggregators.

This is where a certain newspaper is so canny. They know news aggregators are a great outlet for fans who want to get the latest transfer rumour or players viewpoint and so write these utterly pointless,untruthful articles just to entice us onto their site.

That’s it. tThe minute you click on that link they’ve got you. They have another hit and if you’re foolhardy enough to follow that up with giving them your email address then baam they’ve really succeeded in getting the most out of a useless bit of information.

You see, it’s not about giving us a relevant and enjoyable piece to read. It’s all about them getting as many hits and email addresses as they can. To improve on their already huge database so they can deluge you by email of any rubbish they wish to print. Look at us they say, millions of subscriber emails & many times more on article hits. And many people fall for that marketing ploy. Surely this must be a good article if it’s the first one on a news aggregator or if so many fellow fans have read it.

Wrong, wrong, wrong. If we do end up reading the piece of news, then before the end of the first paragraph we know what a load of crap we’ve wasted our time on. This is exactly the same method others use but instead of clicking a mouse they get us to pick up a phone. I’ve given up listening to the station altogether, which is a shame as I get to miss great broadcasters like our very own Spurs show contributor Paul Hawksbee.

Most of you will say, It’s only Durham that gets on our tits and in a way it is, but there’s that Harry love in that all of TalkSport keep ramming down our throats, along with the anti Villas-Boas slant that most of the media started with.

Tottenham’ s public image was up against it the minute Harry was sacked & Talk Sport took full advantage of the Villas-Boas bating. Durham is the worst & best at his game. Worst because he has absolutely no feeling for the subject or fans he’s trying to communicate with. His sole purpose at the station, like newspapers, are to get hits and hits he gets in abundance.
Irate fans ring up the minute he throws out the bait and Spurs fans seem particularly prone to a nibble. Spurs supporter after Spurs supporter will try & get through and his bosses must love seeing the switchboard flash like Blackpool illuminations.

I said I gave up listening to the station and the reason why was due to him saying that the Spurs game against Young Boys in our first ever Champions League game was the biggest in our history. I was massively pissed off with his question. He’s not stupid by any means and that’s why he’s the best at getting us to call his show. He knows our history but chooses to ignore that so he can get a few agitated fans on the line.

Job done & that sort of confrontational argument keeps him in a job. Unfortunately his hapless co-host Darren Gough hasn’t got the nouse to put him in his place so we’re left with him claiming victory and listener figures every day of the week.

It’s hard trying to change reading or listening habits but like crack, once you’ve weaned yourself off it you’ll be glad you’ve gone straight

So, Spurs Fans don’t get upset’ get even, don’t buy a certain newspaper or read it online and avoid listening to at least Durham. Reduced figures will be the only way they’ll learn
I’m more than happy that I don’t read or listen to either of the above as it leaves me time to concentrate on proper journalists like the impeccable Henry Winter, James Lawton or Paddy Barclay.
