‘A real blow’ – Hoddle offers worrying prediction over injured Spurs star

Glenn Hoddle has said that he expects Steven Bergwijn could be out of action for a couple of weeks after the winger came off injured against Rennes.

Bergwijn was one of a number Tottenham players who were unavailable for the trip to Selhurst Park on Saturday, with the Dutchman picking up an ankle injury during the international break with Holland.

He made a swift return to the starting eleven as Nuno Espirito Santo played him alongside Lucas Moura and Harry Kane in France on Thursday.

However, the winger was replaced by Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg just 30 minutes into the clash after picking up another injury.

Bergwijn’s injury is a matter of concern for Nuno ahead of the London derby against Chelsea on Sunday, with the likes of Son Heung-min and Eric Dier already doubts for the match.

Hoddle admitted that he does not expect the former PSV Eindhoven to be involved on Sunday after picking up what seemed to be another ankle problem.

The legendary Spurs midfielder told BT Sport 1 HD (16/09) (as relayed by The Express): “It’s a real blow, for the lad and for Nuno.

“There’s not much in it there and you think ‘what happened there?.’

“You just see the twist of the ankle and that is the very ankle he’s had a problem with, it looks like he’s tweaked it again.

“I don’t see him playing for a couple of weeks if he’s injured it again.”

Spurs Web Opinion

Bergwijn has started the season well and it would be unfortunate for his progress to be curtailed by an injury. If Son is not available for the clash against Chelsea, we will desperately need the Dutchman’s pace to stretch the Blues backline. So, he will certainly be a big miss for Sunday.
