Ipswich City ace Joe Pigott, who is currently on loan at Portsmouth, has been impressed by Tottenham Hotspur loanee Dane Scarlett in the short time they have spent together.

Scarlett is widely regarded as one of the best young talents to come through the Hotspur Way academy in recent times.

He has been sent to the League One outfit on a season-long loan deal this year to get him accustomed to regular senior team football and to help with his development (The Sun).

Scarlett comes into the new campaign off the back of an impressive spell with the U19 England national team this summer, having helped his team to lift the Euros for the first time since 2017 – even contributing two goals and an assist (Tottenham Hotspur).

The Englishman has not netted a goal yet for Pompey, although he has only featured from the start just once so far. Scarlett has made three appearances in total for Portsmouth (Transfermarkt), with the latest one being in their 3-0 victory over Cardiff City in the first-round tie of the Carabao Cup.

Despite that, Pigott, who partnered Scarlett up front in the win against Cardiff, is already in awe of the 18-year-old’s qualities. The Ipswich loanee also joked how he is the one learning from the Tottenham starlet rather than the other way around.

Speaking to The News Portsmouth, Pigott said: “I’ve been able to learn off him (Scarlett) but it’s probably been the other way around, I’m probably learning off him. He’s really sharp and powerful and poses a real threat. If we can get him in the game more for sure it’ll help us.”

Spurs Web Opinion:

Even if Scarlett has not been a regular for Danny Cowley’s side so far, his slow integration into regular first-team football will only help with his development in the long-term future.

After all, there will not be too much pressure on him from the get-go as he can take time to adjust to the new surrounding.

Scarlett can also take a leaf out of Troy Parrott’s book to prevent the mistake that his predecessor made in the past. Parrott is enjoying life at the moment, so perhaps the English forward can follow his path to achieve his full potential in the long run.
