‘A soldier who defends me’ – Chelsea player claims one Tottenham star is ‘crazy’

Enzo Fernandez has labelled Cristian Romero as ‘crazy’ and explained why the centre-back celebrated in Kylian Mbappe’s face during last year’s World Cup final.

Romero and Fernandez were part of the Argentina side that created history in Qatar, with the proud South American footballing nation getting their hands on the World Cup after a 36-year wait.

The Tottenham man did not have the best of starts to the tournament but he stepped up to the plate during the knockout stages, playing a key role in Argentina’s win.

The 25-year-old was one of the best players on the pitch on the night of the final as he delivered a battling display, with the Albiceleste eventually winning on penalty shootouts after the game ended in a 3-3 draw.

Cristian Romero is Tottenham’s crazy soldier

Romero celebrated in Mbappe’s face when Lionel Messi gave Argentina the lead in extra-time, and Fernandez has now explained that the defender had done so because the PSG star was taunting his opponents.

The Chelsea midfielder told Star+ (as relayed by Sport Witness): “There were plays that we celebrated, like some divided ones, and he (Mbappe) made signs to us as if he was going to kill us. He told us that they were going to win the final.

“He got into it with me, I don’t know why. And well, I have a soldier who defends me. Cuti is crazy, ha ha ha. When we scored the goal, he started celebrating it in his face.”

Romero is certainly a player you would want to have on your side, with the Argentine loving a battle. However,  he has to find a way to channel his aggression better without losing his competitive edge as he has crossed the line one too many times in a Tottenham shirt.
