‘A source of great joy’ – Player admits he is flattered by Spurs and Bayern links

Shakhtar Donetsk defender, Domilson Cordeiro dos Santos, known commonly as Dodo, has admitted that he is flattered by speculation linking him with the likes of Tottenham Hotspur.

Spurs are reportedly keen to add a right-back to the squad before the transfer window shuts at the end of the month, with the likes of Bologna’s Takehiro Tomiyasu and Fiorentina’s Nikola Milenkovic being mooted as targets.

Sources claimed last week that Dodo, who has excelled for Shakhtar over the last two campaigns, was also on Fabio Paratici’s radar.

It was revealed that Spurs had seen an offer of €20m (£17m) turned down for the 22-year-old, with Shaktar said to be holding out for a higher fee.

The defender has now admitted his delight at being linked with top clubs in Europe, such as Spurs and Bayern Munich. However, Dodo insisted that he had not heard anything concrete from his agent and was happy to continue his development at the Ukrainian club.

He told TNT Brazil: “Knowing the interest of big clubs is a source of great joy for me.

“I have played at a high level for the last three years, with a good number of games, goals and assists.

“I believe the football I play has generated great interest and I am very happy about that. But I leave these matters to my agent to resolve.

“Nothing has come to me and my head is very still calm. I am very happy here at Shakhtar.

“If I leave one day, that is good for both parties. I will always have affection for the club.”

Spurs Web Opinion

I doubt if Tottenham’s interest in Dodo is concrete as he does not have the same profile as our other right-back targets. Both Tomiyasu and Milenkovic are defensive-minded and capable of playing in a back three while the Brazilian is a more attack-minded right-back.
