‘A special club’ – Mauricio Pochettino reiterates his affection for Tottenham

Mauricio Pochettino has admitted Tottenham will always be a ‘special club’ for him and a place that he still calls his home.

The Argentine coach spent five seasons at Spurs between 2014 and 2019 with his final year at the club culminating in an appearance in the Champions League final.

He left the club midway through the 2019/20 campaign and was eventually appointed as Paris Saint-Germain manager after a year-long sabbatical.

But, talks of a return to Spurs were mooted just a few months into his stint in France (The Times), during the lengthy search for Jose Mourinho’s replacement last summer.

And despite it being more than two years since his departure from north London, Pochettino still recalls the ‘amazing journey’ he went on at Tottenham and says he cherishes his time in charge.

He told BT Sport’s Between The Lines (3:30): “For me it was an amazing journey [at Tottenham], an amazing time. I still feel that it is my club, my place.

“I think when you really feel with the commitment and when you feel the people give everything to try to be successful, and when they treat you really, really good how they treat us, it’s impossible to forget that.

“That is why Tottenham is always going to be a special club for me.”

No one can forget the great work Pochettino did at Spurs for those five years and it was a massive shame that nothing was won to commemorate that.

He still clearly has a warm feeling about the club despite the way his exit came about, so it does seem possible that a reunion might happen at some point further down the line.
