‘A special feeling’ – Spurs duo react to Christian Eriksen’s return to football

Harry Kane said that it is a ‘special feeling’ to see Christian Eriksen make his return to competitive football after hearing he was named in Brentford’s squad on Saturday.

Eriksen joined the Bees on a deal until the end of the season last month after being released from his contract at Inter Milan.

The Denmark international was unable to feature for the Nerazzurri with Serie A rules preventing him from playing with an implantable cardioverter-defibrillator (ICD), which was installed after he had a cardiac arrest at Euro 2020.

Having played in a handful of behind-closed-doors fixtures to ramp his fitness up, Brentford manager Thomas Frank confirmed earlier this week that Eriksen would earn a spot in his side’s squad to face Newcastle (The Athletic).

The 30-year-old started on the bench but was introduced ahead of the hour mark in place of Mathias Jensen with the west London outfit trailing 2-0.

Before Eriksen’s comeback, Tottenham striker Kane was asked his feelings on seeing his former teammate make his return to action, to which he expressed his delight.

He said (via Football.London): “Delighted for Chris. Hopefully, he is able to get on and play some minutes and get back to Premier League football.

“Everyone still remembers the day in the summer. To have him back so quick is a special feeling. Hopefully, we can go and watch it somewhere and hopefully see him come on.”

Heung-min Son, meanwhile, who was stood alongside Kane did not comment but shared an identical sentiment as he nodded with a grin.

Eriksen’s return to football will please everyone after that horrible day last summer. Brentford will no doubt be keeping close attention to his fitness but no doubt he can become an important player for them over the next few months in their fight for Premier League survival.
