‘A Spurs slip-up’ – Mark Lawrenson shares his Villa v Spurs score prediction

Former Liverpool defender Mark Lawrenson has shared his prediction ahead of Tottenham Hotspur’s Premier League fixture against Aston Villa tomorrow evening.

Last time out, Lawrenson correctly predicted that Antonio Conte’s side would beat Newcastle United.  However, the pundit tipped the north Londoners to win 2-0, when in fact it ended up as a comfortable 5-1 thrashing at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium (BBC).

Tottenham make the trip to Villa Park knowing they must take all three points to keep the pressure on Arsenal in the race for a fourth place finish in the Premier League.

With Spurs having won three top flight games in a row, Lawrenson was quick to warn that he believes the unpredictability of their performances could mean that dropped points culd be on the horizon, but not against Steven Gerrard’s team this weekend.

He told the BBC: “Tottenham have got momentum now, while Aston Villa have lost all of theirs after suffering three defeats in a row.

“Philippe Coutinho has been quiet of late, and Villa need to find a way of getting him involved more if they are going to trouble Tottenham.

“A Spurs slip-up is always just around the corner, but when Harry Kane is playing the way he is, they are extremely dangerous.”

Lawro’s prediction: 1-2

If Tottenham have any serious ambition of taking the race for fourth to the wire, three points against Villa has to be a must with Arsenal hosting Brighton at the Emirates earlier in the afternoon.

Coutinho has been quiet in recent weeks but is the type of player who only needs a moment of magic to turn a game on its head.
