‘A top side again’ – Mikel Arteta has a simple approach to the North London derby

Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal go head to head on Sunday in an all-important North London derby, and Mikel Arteta is under no illusions as to how difficult the game is going to be for his side. The Gunners boss is wasting no time resting on his laurels and wants his team to do the same as they prepare for the game.

North London derbies have rarely been as crucial as the upcoming fixture will be, as the result could well have a huge impact on the Premier League title race and the battle for a place in next season’s Champions League.

Tottenham have a chance to not only get one over on their rivals on the day, but could also effectively end Arsenal’s chances of winning the league title.

Arsenal are currently top of the league by one point, but Manchester City have a game in hand, and Pep Guardiola’s men are looking more ruthless than ever right now.

Mikel Arteta knows the NLD will be a tough game

It figures, then, that Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta is keen for his side to stay focused and not get complacent when it comes to the upcoming clash with Tottenham.

Speaking to TNT Sports (23/04/24) after the recent win over Chelsea in midweek, Arteta discussed the imminent North London derby.

He said: “The game on Sunday is going to be a tough one against a top side again, as we know. So let’s enjoy tonight and then let’s go back to work.”

The game on Sunday is going to be incredibly difficult for Spurs. Arsenal are in top form and will be hungry to make us suffer as they push towards the title, but we’ve got to match that and give it everything to derail Arsenal’s title run.
