‘A traumatic injury’ – Conte reveals whether Romero could return vs Norwich

Antonio Conte has revealed that Cristian Romero will not return against Norwich this weekend in what will be Tottenham’s final match of the season.

The Argentine has been a revelation in defence for Spurs this season, taking to the Premier League and Conte’s back three formation like a duck to water.

It was revealed before the North London Derby against Arsenal that Romero would miss the encounter due to a hip injury picked up against Liverpool (Football London).

Some Spurs fans may have been holding out hope that the former Juventus centre-back could make a return to action in time for the final match of the season, but it appears that is not on the cards.

Davinson Sanchez has been filling in for the Argentine on the right side of the back three, and Conte has now revealed he has exactly the same squad of players to choose from this weekend.

When asked whether Romero has a chance to play, Conte said (Football London): “Romero had a traumatic injury. He is not available.

“We have the same players as the last game against Burnley. Not less, not more. We have to be ready to try and fight and get the result.”

Spurs Web Opinion:

It is rather worrying that Conte called it a traumatic injury – I hope that was just a misunderstanding or poor choice of words. Traumatic tends to imply extremely long-term, which I sincerely hope is not the case with Romero.
