After seeing his side progress in the FA Cup with a tight 1-0 win over Burnley, Spurs boss Ange Postecoglou explained what he and the team will work on moving forward, and revealed his relief at progressing to the next round.
Tottenham went into the game in good form, with four wins in their last five games getting the Lilywhites back on track after a disastrous November.
With injuries, suspensions, and international obligations decimating his squad of late, Ange Postecoglou fielded arguably the strongest line up possible tonight for the visit of Burnley, and ultimately, that decision paid off.
Ultimately, it was Pedro Porro‘s wonder strike that won the game for Tottenham. However, Spurs enjoyed a lion’s share of the possession and had more than enough chances to kill off the game much earlier.
The dominant display made things all the more frustrating for Spurs, with missed opportunities and a relentless effort from Burnley. But Postecoglou’s side will progress into the fourth round and will take the win all the same.
Wasteful Spurs have work to do
Speaking to ITV (via the BBC) after the win, Postecoglou admitted his side were ‘wasteful’ in front of goal, but explained it feels a lot better to be able to work on this problem having made it through to the fourth round draw of the FA Cup.

He said: “I think it’s a cup competition so whatever I say or whatever my analysis is, the bottom line is we’re though to the next round so that’s what you’ve got to take out of it because I think the cup games are a unique beast and we’re through to the next round so that’s the main thing.
“We were a little bit wasteful in the final third because we had most of the ball, most of the territory. As I said you analyse those things and give feedback to the players and it’s better to do that when you’re in the next round of the cup.”
Spurs Web Opinion
Tottenham could and should have won this one by two or three goals, but a win is a win, and being in the next round is all that matters right now. The players can have a little break now before the next run of games, and reflect on what went wrong tonight.
