‘A very good sense of the team’ – Mourinho reveals what sets Kane and Son apart from other forwards

Jose Mourinho has hailed Harry Kane and Son Heung-min as world class and waxed lyrical about their willingness to work hard for the team.

It was not too long ago that some pundits including Paul Merson were questioning whether Mourinho was the man to get the best out of Tottenham’s attacking talent.

Those doubts have well and truly been answered this season, with both Kane and Son seemingly in the form of their lives.

By slightly tweaking the positions of both players compared to previous seasons, Mourinho seems to have unlocked their ability to be devastating in attacking transitions.

Both players once again got on the scoresheet with fantastic respective finishes after they set up each other’s goals in Tottenham’s 2-0 win in the North London derby.

Kane and Son put in a much more defensively disciplined display in the second half, tracking players back and helping the home side maintain their clean sheet.

It is that mentality to do the best for the team that Mourinho believes sets the pair apart from the other top forwards in the Premier League.

When asked about Kane and Son, Mourinho said in his post-match press conference (via Football.London): “You know they are world-class. It’s as simple as that, but when we play against City, after the game I was speaking to the Portuguese boy, Dias. I was telling him ‘you are not going to play one single match in the Premier League where the strikers are not good’. This is the Premier League.

“All the strikers are good and when you go up in the table and then you find the Vardys and you find Jota, Mane, Jesus, Aguero and Rashford, Martial, Cavani you go from club to club at the top of the table and everybody is top class.

“But I have to admit that Harry and Sonny are world class players and on the top of what they do they have a very good sense of the team.

“They have a very good sense of the balance that they need and they also do incredible tactical work for the team when the team doesn’t have the ball. So top players, amazing.”
