‘A welcome addition’ – Paul Robinson urges Spurs to snap up 25-year-old in January

Former Tottenham goalkeeper, Paul Robinson believes that Jose Mourinho will want to sign another central defender when the transfer window reopens next month.

Spurs were one of the busiest clubs during the summer transfer window, making seven new additions in order to plug various gaps in their squad.

The club were heavily linked with Inter Milan defender Milan Skriniar during the window, with Tottenham’s technical performance director Steve Hitchen even being spotted in Italy with the Slovak’s agent.

However, the deal failed to materialise and Spurs ended up signing Joe Rodon from Swansea City before the EFL transfer deadline.

Fabrizio Romano revealed last week that Inter will sell Skriniar in January if their asking price of around €50m-€60m (£44.5m – £53.4m) is met (Here We Go podcast).

Robinson believes that the Inter centre-half is exactly the type of player Spurs need to bolster their defence.

The pundit told Football Insider: “Joe Rodon has done excellently well since he came in.

“It was a vital signing before the deadline but I still think Mourinho will strengthen in that area next year.

“Rodon is still young, so is Japhet Tanganga and Davinson Sanchez has been frozen out. I think it is an area they will look at.

“Of course they have very strong options when you consider Alderweireld and Eric Dier as well but there is no harm in signing one more.

“Wow… A player that is of the level of Milan Skriniar would be a welcome addition.”
