‘A whack to the back’ – Alasdair Gold provides update on Son’s suspected injury

Alasdair Gold has revealed that Son Heung-min does not appear to have picked up any serious injury after seeing the Tottenham Hotspur skipper in the media mixed zone conducting his post-match interviews following the 2-1 defeat to West Ham United.

Ange Postecoglou’s men would have looked at the match against West Ham at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium as an ideal opportunity to return to winning ways after their momentum had shifted following their gritty 3-3 draw at Manchester City on Sunday.

On the evidence of the first 20 minutes, it seemed like the Lilywhites could blow their London rivals away when they took the lead through Cristian Romero and the Hammers could not find a foothold in the game.

Son came off against West Ham in discomfort

However, Tottenham were once again wasteful in the final third and all it took was two lucky breaks for David Moyes’ side in the second half for the North Londoners to fall to their third successive home defeat.

To make matters worse, Son was moving extremely gingerly during the dying stages of the game before being replaced on 88 minutes by Alejo Veliz.

Thankfully, it does not seem like the Spurs captain has any serious problem, with Gold taking to social media to state that the forward looked fine in the mixed zone after the game.

The last thing we needed right now is to lose Son for a few weeks, particularly given that the likes of Micky van de Ven, James Maddison and Manor Solomon do not appear very close to a return. It sounds like Son should be fine to play against Newcastle on Sunday. We’ll hear more when Ange meets the press at 12:00 UK time today for the pre-match press conference.
