Aaron Lennon is convinced Tottenham player will become a coach one day

Aaron Lennon is convinced that one senior Tottenham Hotspur man will go into coaching when he hangs up his boots, shedding light on the conversation that he recently had with the player in question.

While the current Tottenham squad has a few superstars and several flashy attacking players that get the fans off their seats, they also have one under-appreciated, no-nonsense footballer who is seldom flashy but always reliable.

There are no prizes for guessing that we are referring to Ben Davies, who has always been ready to fill in whenever required and deliver solid displays at the back, with various Tottenham Hotspur managers relying heavily on him.

The current Tottenham boss is no different, with Ange Postecoglou reserving special praise for the way Davies has stepped up this season during the club’s injury crisis.

Aaron Lennon opens up on his chat with Ben Davies

Davies has now been at Tottenham for a decade, with the Welshman being the only player still at N17 since Lennon’s time at the club.

The former Tottenham winger spoke very highly of the 31-year-old’s personality and his professionalism, confidently asserting that he will go into coaching once he calls time on his playing career.

Lennon told Football.London: “Son was just arriving as I was leaving but it’s probably only Ben now looking at the squad. Ben’s been unbelievable, absolutely amazing, another great lad by the way, an absolute legend, a fantastic professional and still going strong.

“You never think about that [making a decade at a club] with anyone these days, because football’s changed so much. I think even when I had reached it at Tottenham, people were just shocked when you say you’ve been at the club for 10 years.

“It happens, but it’s so rare now in football, especially with new managers coming in. You can have a new manager, you’re not his cup of tea, see you later.

“That’s how football’s changed. So for Ben to do that is magnificent, but it doesn’t surprise me because Ben is really an underrated player. He’s a top player, top professional, can cover numerous positions and also a really, really good footballer.

“I’m buzzing for Ben because he’s a great lad. Last time I was down there [at Tottenham] I actually bumped into him, had a little chat with him. He’s still going strong, but he’s a great, great lad, always has been.

“He’s quite far in his badges because I was chatting to him a little bit about the coaching badges as well. Ben will definitely go into coaching. I’d expect it because he’d be good at that.”

Is Davies’ time at Tottenham coming to an end?

The versatile defender’s time at Tottenham appears to be winding to a close as his current contract runs out in June.

Over recent weeks, we have heard that Leeds United are plotting a move for Davies in the summer as they look to add Premier League experience to their squad to cope with the demands of the top-flight if they get promoted.

If the former Swansea man does leave this summer, there is no doubt that he will be remembered very positively by the Tottenham fan base, given the fantastic service he has given the club over the last decade despite not always receiving the love he deserves.
