Tottenham turned on the style against Brentford

There has been a lot said and written about Tottenham’s hyper-attacking approach, with many questioning whether the Lilywhites are too open in light of the losses to Newcastle and Arsenal.

However, Ange Postecoglou has already shown that he is not one to turn to ‘Plan B’ and his side demonstrated on Saturday just how devastated they can be when things click for them.

The Bees struggled to deal with the pressing and the attacking intent of the North London side, who emerged deserved 3-1 winners.

Maddison pulling the strings

The star of the show for Tottenham was James Maddison, who delivered what was arguably his best display in a Spurs shirt so far.

The 27-year-old was the architect of most of Spurs’ threatening attacks on Saturday, dictating play from a slightly deeper role.

Lennon pointed out that the England international has been on fire from the start of the season, opining that Postecoglou’s men need to somehow keep him fit to have a shot at reaching their lofty ambitions.

The former Spurs winger told talkSPORT: “He has been outstanding all season, to be fair. He started the season like last season, and he is a fantastic player. He is one of those players you love to play with. He makes things happen, he plays forward.

“He was driving past players, he was reading the game well, lovely finish at the end, but, like you said, if the players in front of him had their shooting boots on, then he could have had three or four assists in that game.

“He is vital to everything that Spurs do, especially going forward. He is a key player, and Spurs need him to stay fit.”

Maddison has silenced doubters

It is fair to say that there were a few question marks about Maddison coming into the new season after his struggles in the latter part of last season and his subsequent omission from the England squad.

However, the 27-year-old has well and truly silenced his critics at the start of the season, demonstrating that he is among the best in the Premier League when he is fully fit and firing.
