Aaron Lennon sends message to new Spurs manager about Kane and Son

Aaron Lennon has admitted that he wants to see the next Tottenham manager take the leash off and allow the attacking talent at the club to express themselves on the pitch.

Most of the Tottenham teams that Lennon was part of, particularly under Martin Jol, Juande Ramos and Harry Redknapp, played adventurous front-foot football, with the winger getting bums off seats at White Hart Lane whenever he picked up the ball on the right flank.

While that is an identity that the club built on during Mauricio Pochettino‘s era, it is something the Lilywhites have moved away from since, opting for big-name managers with experience of winning trophies in Jose Mourinho and Antonio Conte over recent years.

The experiment has backfired and, unsurprisingly, the club are now thought to be on the lookout for a young, up-and-coming manager who plays attacking football (Evening Standard).

Lennon has insisted that Tottenham need a complete reset and admitted that the club need a manager who takes the handbrake off.

The former Spurs winger told Football.London: “It’s been a difficult season for Spurs and the fans.

“I’ve watched them a few times and sometimes I look at that forward line and I just think ‘someone let them off that leash. Just let them off that leash’.

“They need a reset, they need to get a new manager and sporting director and they need to start again because it’s a fantastic club with some amazing people.”

Spurs Web Opinion

Lennon is spot on in his assessment as not a lot of teams in world football boast of the attacking talent that Tottenham do.

While our defensive issues are well documented, it is actually quite an achievement by Conte that he made a team with the likes of Kane, Son, Kulusevski and Richarlison look so toothless in attack.
