Some Spurs fans on social media have been left extremely angered at Harry Kane finishing in 23rd in the vote for the Ballon d’Or 2021.
Kane might be struggling for goals at club level this season but the striker has enjoyed a fabulous calendar year for club and country on the whole, which ensured him a place in the 30-man nomination for the Ballon d’Or.
The striker finished as the top goal-scorer and top assister in the Premier League last season and his four goals in the European Championship over the summer helped the Three Lions go all the way to the final.
However, despite this, the 28-year-old had to settle for 23rd in the list, with Lionel Messi winning the Ballon D’or for a record seventh time.
Some Spurs fans on social media insisted that it was extremely disrespectful to have Kane so low in the ranking on the back of the year the Tottenham man has had.
Lower than Mount and Kjaer after being golden boot and top assister in best league itw…

Won the award for most goals and most assists in the best league in the world and not even the highest placed player from the Epl in this farcical award?
This is completely rigged and biased. https://t.co/S2wp3g1d8W

Not good enough to win it, but highest scorer in premier league, most assists in the premier league. Captained national side to Euro final scoring important goals and gets beat by Mason Mount 🤨 https://t.co/HjvaLuvrRy

We are all angry about Harry wanting to go to city but let’s be honest if he was there he’d be much higher than this. Shocking. https://t.co/QR6MWt6ato

Sterling & Mahrez can't even start for City.
Kane had the most G & the most A in the league. Individual awards are a joke lmao https://t.co/Uf4duVc1IY

Spurs Web Opinion:
Given how the voting system is structured for the Ballon d’Or, we know that it is essentially nothing more than a popularity contest. So, I certainly was not expecting Kane to finish in the top 10.
However, even I was taken aback by the fact that he finished so far behind. I simply do not understand how the likes of Simon Kjaer and Bruno Fernandes got more votes than the Tottenham striker.
