Bien Sports anchor Richard Keys has blasted VAR’s decision to rule out a goal for Sheffield United for offside in the second half of their game against Spurs on Saturday.
Despite being uninspiring for the majority of the game, Tottenham took the lead through Son Heung-min. The away side responded quickly with an equalizer but after a close examination by VAR, the goal was ruled out for offside by mere millimetres.
As it happened, Chris Wilder’s side continued to push and got a deserved equalizer.
However, Keys felt that the decision by VAR to rule out Sheffield United’s first goal was unacceptable. The 62-year-old certainly didn’t mince words when talking about the decision.
He took to social media to post the following message during the game:
No. No. No. No. No. VR. This is now too much. The game is dead if we’re ruling goals out like Sheffield Utd’s at Spurs. A toe nail & a 3 min 47 secs delay. It’s nonsense. Absolute nonsense. And they got another one wrong at Burnley. This can’t go on. This is not what VR is for.

When Sheffield United’s second goal was also put through a long VAR check for offside, Keys posted the following:
And again they’re checking at Spurs. Why? Quite simply VR is not fit for purpose.

Spurs Web Opinion
It is clear by now that the way VAR is being used is flawed. It was supposed to come in for spotting clear and obvious errors but seems to be creating even more talking points by ruling out goals for extremely marginal calls. While I believe the technology is here to stay, there is a lot that needs to be ironed out in the way it is used.
