‘Absolutely cast iron’ – Journalist makes confident claim about Tottenham transfer plans

The Daily Mail reporter Sami Mokbel is not in any doubt that Tottenham Hotspur will look to bring a centre-forward through the door next summer.

Spurs have strengthened their forward line with the acquisition of Timo Werner on loan until the end of the season, with the Lilywhites having the option to make the deal permanent for £15m (Sky Sports).

With the German capable of playing across the front three, just as Richarlison and Son Heung-min, Ange Postecoglou now has a lot more options for the attacking positions, particularly with Manor Solomon now also reportedly close to a return (The Telegraph).

According to some sources, Tottenham are also thought to be closing in on a deal to sign Club Brugge’s wide-attacker Antonio Nusa, although the 18-year-old is expected to be loaned back to the Belgian club until the end of the season (Football Insider).

A centre-forward on the agenda for next summer

Mokbel has now asserted that Ange Postecoglou will want to bring a number nine through the door during next summer’s transfer window but the journalist suggested that Richarlison might still remain at the club next season.

He told The Spurs Chat Podcast: “I think they will look for a centre-forward in the summer, that is absolutely cast iron, that is what they will look for, whether that means Richarlison will look to leave, I don’t know, he’s really enjoying it at the moment.

“I’d be surprised even if they did sign a striker, which I expect them to do, I’d be surprised if Richarlison would look to move.”

Tottenham’s decision on which centre-forward to sign (whether to go for an expensive option like Gimenez/Toney or a younger striker) would not only be affected by Richarlison’s form over the next six months but also their ultimate decision on whether to sign Werner permanently.
