‘Absolutely dreadful’ – Pundit blasts Davinson Sanchez despite his two goals

Andy Hinchcliffe has ripped into Davinson Sanchez for his defensive mistakes in Tottenham’s 5-4 defeat to Everton on Wednesday.

Sanchez has been a peripheral figure for the majority of the last few months, with most of his minutes this season coming in the Europa League and domestic cup competitions.

However, the Colombian has been handed more opportunities by Mourinho over recent weeks, having started three of the last four games in all competitions.

The 24-year-old started alongside Toby Alderweireld at the back at Goodison Park and got on the scoresheet twice for the North Londoners that evening thus tripling his goal tally in a Spurs shirt.

However, while Sanchez was a threat in the opposition box, he proved to be a defensive liability for Tottenham at the back, with the 24-year-old being at fault for at least two of the five goals that the Toffees scored.

Hinchcliffe claimed that the 24-year-old made some rookie mistakes and admitted that he has not been convinced by the former Ajax man as a defender.

The former Everton star told Soccer Special on Sky Sports (10/02/21 as relayed by HITC): “Davinson Sanchez, it’s strange, he has scored twice but his defending tonight has been absolutely dreadful.

“I am not convinced by him as a defender at all because so much about his game is about ball watching. We saw that with the Richarlison goal. He didn’t actually do what he should have done.

“For an experienced defender, he should have been reading the game better. He didn’t.”

Spurs Web Opinion

After Sachez’s performance against Everton, I suspect we will not see much of him in the Premier League for the remainder of the season. It was apparent even before that Mourinho did not rate the Colombian very highly but his display on Wednesday could prove to be the final straw.
