‘Absolutely fantastic’ – Bayern Munich player avoids comparison with Spurs star

Bayern Munich defender Alphonso Davies has admitted his admiration for Gareth Bale but rejected comparisons between him and the Tottenham star.

Davies exploded on to the scene last season, carving a reputation as one of the best left-backs in world football.

Despite being just 20 years of age, the Canadian international is already a regular in the Bayern side and is one of their most dangerous attacking outlets.

There are comparisons to be made between Bale’s rise and Davies’, with the Welshman also starting his career as an attacking left-back.

It was Harry Redknapp who moved Bale further forward during the 2009-10 season to left-wing and the former Southampton man never looked back after that going on to achieve plenty of success as an attacker at Spurs and then Real Madrid.

When asked about the similarities between him and Bale, Davies insisted that he still has a long way to go to be compared with the Tottenham star, given what he has achieved in the game.

The Bayern defender told World Soccer: “Gareth Bale is an absolutely fantastic player who has achieved so much and won many trophies.

“I don’t compare, though – if the coach asks me to play at left-back that’s where I play, and if he asks me to play on the left-wing that’s where I play.”
