‘Absolutely’ – Former manager of Paratici target thinks he would shine at Spurs

Italian coach Massimo Drago, who managed Franck Kessie during the midfielder’s loan spell at Cesena during the 2015/16 season, believes the AC Milan star would thrive at Tottenham Hotspur under Antonio Conte.

Spurs reportedly tried to sign Kessie during the January transfer window but the Ivory Coast international is thought to have turned them down, preferring to wait until the summer to leave Milan as a free agent (CalcioMeracto).

Barcelona are also thought to be keen on snapping up the 25-year-old (Gianluigi Longari) but MilanNews.it have claimed Tottenham are currently the front-runners to sign the midfielder, having made the ‘most concrete offer’ for the player.

La Repubblica reported this week that Milan have not yet given up hope of tying Kessie down to a new deal and will make one final contract offer to the player.

However, his former manager, Drago, has urged him to leave Serie A and move to the Premier League.

He told CalcioMercato about Kessie: “I would see him well in English football. Juve have a bit of difficulty in midfield but I think overseas he can give a little more than what he already gives here in Italy.

When quizzed on whether he would fit in at Conte’s Tottenham, Drago responded: “Yes, absolutely.”

Paratici will likely pull out all stops to snap up Kessie, as signing a player of his quality on a free transfer is too big an opportunity to pass up on.

However, whether or not Kessie can be convinced to join Spurs could depend on whether Conte is still at the club by the summer, which looks far from certain at the moment.
