‘Absolutely Pathetic’ – Some Spurs fans react angrily to Lineker’s comments on Kane

Harry Kane netted a hat-trick for England yesterday evening as they demolished Montenegro to seal a place at Euro 2020 next summer.

His hat-trick took his tally to 31 goals in 44 appearances for the Three Lions thus overtaking Alan Shearer’s total and going up to sixth in the all-time list.

Former Spurs striker Gary Lineker, who is fourth on the list with 44 goals for England (full list – Goal.com), took to social media to give his take on Kane overtaking Shearer.

The Match of the Day presenter opined that the former Newcastle United man’s goals came against much tougher opposition than Kane’s did.

Some Spurs fans were quite unhappy with Lineker’s comments and pointed out how his argument was a pointless one as Kane, just like Shearer, has scored against teams of all calibre in both friendlies and competitive matches.

Here’s how some fans responded to Lineker’s tweet:

Any suggestion that Kane doesn’t score against top opposition and in important matches is demonstrably disproved by his record both for club and country. Despite being a generation talent, it still looks like Kane is not as appreciated by the country as he should be.
