‘Absoutely on’ – Fabrizio Romano provides update on Dutch winger

Italian football journalist Fabrizio Romano has provided an update on Twitter over Steven Bergwijn’s future at Tottenham Hotspur.

Romano has claimed that a deal between Spurs and the Dutch giants is ‘absolutely on’ with both clubs remaining in contact over a transfer that is yet to be fully agreed.

The Independent‘s Miguel Delaney claimed yesterday that Spurs are keen on Ajax winger Antony and are prepared to offer Bergwijn as a replacement for the 22-year-old.

Bergwijn has made his intentions clear that he wants to leave north London this summer in the search of regular first-team football, admitting that several clubs have registered their interest in him (De Telegraaf).

Romano has previously reported that Spurs want €30m (£25.6m) to sanction the sale of the 24-year-old.

Bergwijn needs regular first-team football at this stage of his career, especially with the World Cup on the horizon and having previously felt the hurt of being overlooked for Euro 2020 selection.

If Spurs can recoup £25.6m, it will only represent a small loss on the £27m they paid PSV in 2019 (BBC).
