Report: Club ‘maintaining talks’ despite inability to meet Spurs’ asking price for player

The Daily Mail have revealed that the dialogue between Tottenham Hotspur and AC Milan is continuing over a deal for Emerson Royal, although the two clubs are not thought to be close to striking an agreement at the moment.

It is quite clear that Emerson’s three-year stay at Spurs is about to come to an end in the summer and AC Milan have seemingly gone on the offensive to try and win the race for the right-back.

Last week, it was reported by the print edition of Gazzetta dello Sport (via Sport Witness) that the Serie A club had held extensive talks with the Brazilian’s entourage over a move.

The report claimed that the defender is convinced about making a move to San Siro and that agreeing personal terms is now expected to be straightforward.

However, it was explained that an agreement still had not been reached between the two clubs over the player’s transfer.

Emerson Royal made 24 appearances for Tottenham last season across all competitions, scoring one goal (transfermarkt).

The Mail have now reported something similar, stating that Tottenham and Milan are ‘maintaining talks’ over a deal for Emerson.

The publication suggests that Tottenham are demanding £21m for the former Real Betis man, which the Rossoneri have not shown a willingness to pay.

I do not think Tottenham will offer Milan much of a discount for Emerson since the right-back is likely to be in demand across Europe this summer.

Spurs are not likely to budge on their asking price and it would instead be up to the Italian side to up their offer if they want to swiftly strike a deal.

The defender knows he is once again going to get limited game time in North London with Pedro Porro firmly the first-choice right-back within the Tottenham Hotspur first team squad under Ange Postecoglou.
