Adama Traore development at Barcelona could affect reported Spurs target

Adama Traore has been handed the number 11 shirt at Barcelona, which was previously owned by rumoured Tottenham Hotspur target Ousmane Dembele.

Traore was thought to be Tottenham’s number one target for the right wing-back role but the pacy wide man snubbed the North Londoners’ approach in favour of a return to Barca (Telegraph).

Spurs were also heavily linked (TuttoMercatoWeb) with a move for Dembele during January after the winger, who is now into the final six months of his contract, failed to reach an agreement on a new deal with the Catalan giants (Mirror).

The Athletic revealed this week that Tottenham did enquire about Dembele early in the window but they decided against signing the 24-year-old when Barca offered them the player on deadline day.

Antonio Conte’s men allegedly felt they did not want to bring in a big-name player in a position where they were already well-stacked.

According to AS, Barca are now considering terminating Dembele’s contract so that they can take him off their wage bill immediately.

The fact that Dembele has now lost his number to Traore, suggests that the Frenchman could well be on his way out sooner rather than later.

Spurs Web Opinion

Even if Barca release Dembele and the Frenchman is available for free, I still do not expect Spurs to offer him a contract.

While the 24-year-old certainly possesses some world-class attributes, I do not see his personality as being a good fit to work with Conte.
