Togo president wants Adebayor at African Cup of Nations

Togo president Faure Gnassingbe has summoned Emmanuel Adebayor to the nation’s capital in a bid to make the Spurs striker to change his mind about representing his country at the Africa Cup of Nations.

Adebayor has so far refused to be called up for the tournament following concerns about unpaid bonuses and team security. Togo boss Didier Six has until Wednesday to announce his squad for the Nations Cup, which kicks off in South Africa on January 19 and Gnassingbe still holds hope of changing the striker’s mind.

A Sports Ministry official said: “We hope the talks will change his position.”

Should Adebayor change his mind it will only leave Jermain Defoe as our only senior out and out striker, although Clint Dempsey could play just behind JD.
