Agbonlahor predicts who will finish fourth in the PL out of Spurs and Aston Villa

As it stands, Tottenham Hotspur and Aston Villa are trading places on a weekly basis as the battle for a spot in the top four intensifies. But, according to Gabriel Agbonlahor, it is Spurs who will win that race come the end of the season.

It has been a thrilling Premier League campaign so far, and at the halfway stage, we technically have a five-team title race on our hands. Liverpool currently lead the way, with Manchester City and Arsenal just two points behind.

Aston Villa sit in fourth place right now, just three points behind City and Arsenal, and only two points ahead of Spurs in fifth.

If you ask Ange Postecoglou, his Spurs side are ‘hanging in’ the title race right now (BBC). With the Lilywhites out of all cup competitions, and with key players returning from injury and international duty, there is a real belief that the North London club could surprise us in the final stages of the season.

Spurs can beat Ason Villa to the top four

Agbonlahor seems to agree with that sentiment, too. In his latest appearance on talkSPORT, the former Villa man backed Spurs to pip Unai Emery’s side to the post.

He said: “It’s going to come down to injury, fatigue, playing in Europe, Spurs aren’t playing in Europe, it’s going to help them. Both cups, [Villa] have got extra games, replay on Wednesday against Chelsea at home, still in the Europa Conference League.

“Some of these players have looked tired in recent weeks, they need a little bit of a rest, that’s what they had, with that January rest they had.

“I think [Villa] can, but I think they will miss out to Spurs. I do think once Bissouma and Son are back, you have got Maddison in there as well. I just think Spurs will get that fourth place. I think Villa will finish fifth, though.”

Honestly, I’m just surprised Agbonlahor didn’t let his personal bias interfere with his verdict here. I hope he’s right, and I think he could be. We’ve got a full squad back now, and a clear run at the Premier League from here on out, so there’s no excuse.
