Agbonlahor says one Tottenham star should be playing down in League Two

Gabby Agbonlahor has delivered a scathing assessment of Richarlison, opining that the striker would be playing in League Two if he is not Brazilian.

Richarlison has had a hot streak in front of goal since returning from his pelvic surgery last month, with the striker now having taken his goal tally for the season to seven across all competitions to go with his three assists (Transfermarkt).

The 26-year-old has received plenty of praise from Ange Postecoglou, not just for his recent exploits in front of goal but also for the hard work he puts in for the team, with the Australian coach insisting that there is even more to come from the forward (Hayters TV).

Agbonlahor not impressed with Richarlison

However, Agbonlahor is not convinced whatsoever that Richarlison is good enough to be playing for Tottenham. In fact, the pundit insisted that the former Everton man should be playing in English football’s fourth tier.

The pundit told talkSPORT about Tottenham’s 1-0 win over Burnley on Friday: “I was watching the game and thinking ‘I’m wasting my evening, I could be watching a new series on Netflix’ 60 minutes in, I turned it off, it was dreadful.

“Richarlison, he can’t control the ball, he’s not strong enough to hold the ball up, he’s not good with link-up play, he can’t run in behind because he’s not quick enough, he can’t finish. Honestly, he’d be playing in League Two if he wasn’t Brazilian, I don’t rate him one bit.”

Richarlison will now have some competition to contend with for his place in the Spurs side, with the Lilywhites reported to have agreed a deal to sign Timo Werner for RB Leipzig on an initial loan deal with an option to buy (David Ornstein).

Agbonlahor said about the German’s impending arrival: “Timo Werner is going to be a better option than Richarlison and it’s only a six-month loan, I don’t blame Ange.”

Spurs Web Opinion

Football is a game of opinions and Agbonlahor is welcome to his but one would think he would be a little more respectful when talking about a player who has played 48 times for Brazil, scoring 20 goals.

However, we should not be surprised to hear this as we know that talkSPORT pundits are expected to make exaggerated claims for the sake of engagement.
