Agent admits striker turned down approach from Tottenham this summer

Tottenham Hotspur finally managed to address an issue that has been plaguing them for over a year by signing a number nine who can cover for Harry Kane.

The early signs regarding Carlos Vinicius certainly seem positive and Spurs fans will be hoping that the Benfica loanee proves to be the long-term Kane understudy the club have been crying out for having been without a plan B side the departure of Fernando Llorente.

However, before the Lilywhites managed to sign the Belgian, they were rumoured to be looking a whole host of centre forwards across Europe including the likes of Southampton’s Danny Ings, Torino captain Andrea Belotti, Metz’s Habib Diallo (Football.London).

Since the transfer window closed Wolfsburg striker Wout Weghorst (Kicker) and Eintracht Frankfurt’s Bas Dost (Bild) have also revealed that the North Londoners made an approach for their services.

It has now emerged that Jose Mourinho’s side also made an attempt to sign another striker from the Bundesliga; Bayer Leverkusen’s Lucas Alario.

The Argentina international’s agent, Pedro Aldave has revealed that the 28-year-old decided against a move to Tottenham since he did not want to be stuck on the bench.

Alario’s agent told TNT Sports (as relayed by Sport Witness): “We had opportunities to go out on loan and he chose to stay.

“I think Lucas can be in a top team today. Everything is very relative, many times the players of the top teams reach the end of the championship shattered.

“It’s easier to make the leap from Argentina to a top team, on the other hand, if you already came to Europe it’s more difficult.

“We had the chance of Tottenham, which is a top club, but to go and watch the games from the stands, it doesn’t work.”
