Agent admits there are ‘many offers on the table’ for Spurs and Liverpool target

Manuel Ugarte’s agent Jorge Chijane has said that the midfielder is almost certain to leave Sporting Lisbon when the transfer window opens this summer.

Ugarte has been one of the most consistent performers in the Portuguese top flight this season and his displays have reportedly caught the attention of a couple of Premier League clubs.

The print edition of O Jogo (29/04/23 as relayed by Sport Witness) claimed two weeks ago that Tottenham are expected to push ahead with a move for the player once they have a new head coach in place.

The report added that Sporting expect the midfielder to leave after failing in their efforts to tie him down to a new deal, with the 22-year-old’s contract said to have a release clause of €60m (£52.6m) in his current contract.

However, over the last few days, Liverpool seem to have stepped up their efforts to sign Ugarte, with Record reporting this week that the Reds have now emerged as the front-runners for the Uruguayan’s signature.

His agent has now confirmed that there are already several offers on the table for the player and that a final decision on the destination is yet to be made.

Chijane told O Jogo (as relayed by talkSPORT): “Liverpool? There is a lot of talk, but it is not the only club, there are others.

“There’s a lot of talk, but I’m still not sure about the club. There are many offers on the table.

“It’s almost certain that he won’t stay, it’s sure he’ll leave. I believe that in 15 days the situation will be resolved.”

Spurs Web Opinion

There is no doubt that several clubs across Europe would have expressed an interest in Ugarte’s services.

Unless Tottenham fill their vacancies (director of football and manager) soon, they risk getting left behind by the likes of Liverpool in the race for the 22-year-old’s signature.
